πŸŽƒ Spooktober πŸŽƒ

Well it’s that time of year again everybody! The time of spooks, goofs and ungodly amounts of concentrated sugar! Ah yes, I can  taste the regret already.

Even though Halloween isn’t a big thing here in Finland (just a good excuse to drink) it has always affected the place I spend most of my time, the internet! The festive time of October seems to paint everything in black and orange, everyone starts to do the monster smash and just have fun as a collective. Content creators do Halloween specials, streamers change their emotes, and people change their avatars and even themes of their blogs, twitters and whatnots and so did I! Doesn’t it feel festive and fun in here? Just don’t run away with my bowl of candy or we're going to have a big problem!

So with this post I’m just gonna list things that I enjoy in the media during these spoOOooOooky times.

Content to stick your eyeballs to

One of the biggest things during October in the internet are special events leading to Halloween. Streamers do horror video game marathons, change their emotes to spooky versions of the originals and just create a really good feeling of atmosphere and celebration. Content creators do that really well with Halloween specials too! My favorites are JonTron's Halloween specials and Cinemassacre's all month running Monster Madness series in which James Rolfe aka the Angry Video Game Nerd makes short horror movie reviews.

For me the biggest signs that Halloween is near are special events in video games, I love Halloween events in games! My all time favorite events ever in video games were Team Fortress 2 Scream Fortress Halloween events! They were such a blast! The music changes in the game, maps got Halloweenified (yes that’s a word, i swear on my undead heart) and spooky items got added to the game and usually there was a big overarching event for the whole server to do and every year they did something different! Unlike Overwatch which just uses the same event (which I did like the first time!) over and over again.

October is a great time for horror movies. Usually there are special screenings of older horror movies in cinemas and that is true for this year too! Finnkino is screening one of my favorite horror movies ever, the original Evil dead on 31.10. and they are also screening the original Halloween on 1.11. So if you don’t have plans from Halloween yet, there you go!

Cursed final words

Bleeeeaarrggghhh eeeeeerrgghh….Oh man shouldn’t have eaten that last brain….anyways

I just love Halloween and everything that leads to it during October. It makes the scattered world of internet feel like one and it brings people together, even if it’s just for a little while. There’s a lot of special media that gets created for Halloween but I am going to leave you all with this special gem before I flee to the darkness. Please enjoy and remember to keep your pitchforks and crucifixes near you!  Anything can happen on Halloween!

  1. Very interesting post you wrote. I also like the atmosphere on the Internet when Halloween comes, even though it's nothing special for me as a celebration. It's always fun to see how everything is pumkinized :D I think that if it wasn't for the Internet then the Halloween would be just American "meh" for us. Also a very nice effort from your side to change the design of your blog.

  2. I absolutely love the month of Halloween in the media! It brings such a strong communal feeling :P Also two points about this post:

    1. It's well written and fun, I had a blast reading it.
    2. What drugs did they use while doing that Tim Curry bit and where can I get some?
