MindTrek 2018
So I went to a international technology conference called MindTrek on 10th-11th of October and it was a pretty fun experience although as a student I kinda felt like the conference wasn’t for me. It was more business oriented and all of the lectures were more of a tool for the businesses to promote themselfs to the other businesses attending MindTrek. Some of the speakers were really entertaining and I genuinely found myself interested in the subject and said presentation.
One of these presentations were Enea Le Fons presentation, who stayed in vr for 30 days!! (well it was more like 60 days)

The journey began by him modeling his apartment in 3D and adding some items from his household to the virtual reality by placing some sensor on chairs, vacuum cleaners and some mugs. He stayed couple days in his apartment but pretty early on he decided to tear down the apartments walls so he could enjoy VR’s freedomness. With him freeing his creativity he started to experiment more with architecture. He started to design 3D printable furniture with sensor that you could print for yourself and use in your VR spaces. He even started to build whole cities from the ground up in the VR and tried to sell the city's concept to NASA...he didn’t hear back from them.
The whole presentation was interesting and fun to listen to. I liked all of the statistics that he showed with him starting to walk waaay more ones he really got into the creative mind in the VR and him completely changing his sleeping schedule from 8-9h of sleep to 20 min naps throughout the day so he could constantly do something.
I was also interested in the Liberlands presentation.

But couldn’t attend it in time so all I heard was the final question to the presentator “Are you serious?”. That was all I needed to hear to know that I missed something good, I also heard from the others that it was the best presentation in the conference (probably because it was actually entertaining, unlike most of the presentations….woops who said that!?).
All in all it was just an okay experience. There was nothing really interesting going on in this conference, except the couple presentations, and as a student I really did feel like I was out of place there with all of the business people in their suits and busy lives. I don’t regret going there but I did hope it would have been more interesting and engaging conference considering all the cool things technology has to offer nowadays.
...Welp at least the food was good!
yum yum
